Paris Christmas Markets 2019 You Cannot Miss

Looking for the Best Paris Christmas Markets 2019? Europe is known for its many Christmas Markets, and in France the most famous markets are found in the Alsace region in the eastern part of the country. However there is no need to travel outside of Paris to experience these wonderful traditional Marchés de Noël. Here is our list of the best Christmas markets in Paris!

Tuileries Christmas Market

Formerly held on the Champs-Elysées, the Marché de Noël du Jardin des Tuileries is open from 15 November to the 5th of January. If you’re visiting the nearby Louvre or Musée d’Orsay, take a stroll through these beautiful gardens afterwards and enjoy all of the holiday cheer in the biggest Christmas market in Paris. In the 100 wooden chalets throughout the market, you can browse through holiday gifts made by artisans. In the Gourmet Market, there are 20 chalets each representing a different region in France where you can try their delicious specialties. Children will love the amusement park rides, including the ferris wheel which gives you an amazing view of the city, and the ice skating rink. Adults will love the restaurants and wine bars within the market.

Alsatian Christmas Market in Paris

The famous Alsatian Christmas Market in Paris is held at the Gare de l’Est train station from 4 December to 20 December. This is the oldest Alsatian Christmas market outside of the Alsace region and has been held for 38 years in Paris. You can try Alsatian specialties and find Männeles (pastries in the form of a man traditionally baked for Saint Nicholas’ day) or Kougelhopf – a traditional Alsatian cake. On 6 December, Saint Nicholas’ day, every child at the market will receive a Gingerbread man.

Alsace Christmas Market

Bercy Village Christmas Market

Another great place to visit in Paris is Bercy Village, which was previously a storage area for wine in the 19th century. The 42 storehouses of the Cour St Emilion have been transformed into boutiques and restaurants. Each year for Christmas the cobblestone streets and passage ways are decorated with magical holiday lights and decorations. The Cour St Emilion will transform itself into an enchanted forest, with installations created by artist Laurent Sanguinetti, called “A Forest and its Secrets”. Santa Claus and his elves are set to visit the market on Saturdays 14 and 21 December and Sundays 15 and 22 December from 2pm to 6pm. In addition, there will be free family entertainment each weekend beginning on 24 November including holiday concerts and activities for children.

La Defense Christmas Market

Located to the west of Paris, is the Christmas Market at La Defense is open from 21 November to 28 December. Easily accessible by Metro line 1, this is the largest Christmas market in the Ile-de-France region. A Christmas Village is installed on the Esplanade of La Defense and there will be an 18 meter tall Christmas tree, there will also be a large ice skating rink near the Grand Arc of La Defense. All of the modern light installations reflect the architecture of La Defense’s business district.

Saint Germain Christmas Market

Last but definitely not least, Saint Germain Christmas Market in Paris is small and cozy, and most probably the chicest in town! Artisans and pastry masters meet in this unique location.
